ITHACA, NY - The University at Buffao crew team opened the spring season with a tri-meet against Ithaca and Marist. Variable winds and a light tail current greeted the squads as UB took two of three contested races.

The varsity four squad won its race in 8:04.9, defeating Ithaca by a slim six-tenths of a second. The team consisted of coxswain Tina LaFountain (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills), stroke Sara Sheffer (Ft. Edward, NY/Colonie), third seat Courtney Kane (Latham, NY/Shaker), second seat Jessica Barrell (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy) and first seat Margaret Siller (Buffalo, NY/Hutch-Tech).

UB's novice eight team won its race in 7:01.7, finishing the Cayuga Inlet course 10 seconds ahead of Ithaca. The team included coxswain Randi Prusak (Attica, NY/Attica), stroke Michelle Schwach (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), seventh seat LaVoya Reddish (Queens, NY/Hillcrest), sixth seat Kasey Hansen (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), fifth seat Amy Aldridge (Penfield, NY/Penfield), fourth seat Deanna Knighton (Angola, NY/Lake Shore), third seat Melissa Ward (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), second seat Jessica Roman (Spencer, NY/Spencer-Van Etten) and first seat Sarah Sullivan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East).

The Bulls travel to Boston for a meet with Northeastern, Boston College and Dartmouth on Saturday. UB hosts Mercyhurst on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Sunday's race against Mercyhurst will be held on the historic Erie Canal and Tonawanda Creek. For the best viewing, fans can watch the race at the finish line at Bear Ridge Road.
