ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo dropped its boats into the water for the first time this spring as the Bulls met host Ithaca College and Marist College in a tri-meet on Ithaca’s Cayuga Lake. Although the weather wasn’t very favorable to the teams with temperatures in the mid-40s, overcast skies and consistent headwind, UB crews managed to win five of eight races.

Both of UB’s Novice Eight entries were victorious with Ithaca and Marist finishing second and third, respectively, in both races. UB’s first novice eight squad consisted of stroke seat Corinne Blum (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland), seventh seat Crysten Rushmore (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham), sixth seat Andrea Lysiuk (St. Catharines, Ontario/Holy Cross SS), fifth seat Marissa Ammendola (Nutley, NJ/Nutley), fourth seat Elizabeth McMahon (West Seneca, NY/Nardin Academy), third seat Lindsay Rodgers (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West), second seat Caitlin Hambridge (Amherst, NY/Holy Angels Academy), bow seat Ginelle Michael (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and coxswain Abbie Potts (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg). The second novice eight team included Katy Noviello (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs), seventh seat Samantha Atlas (Rockville Center, NY/South Side), sixth seat Katherine Laub (Batavia, NY/Batavia), fifth seat Rachel Albert (St. Louis, MO/Parkway Central), fourth seat Jacquie Zehler (Alden, NY/Attica), third seat Anna Cross (Selkirk, NY/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk), second seat Lindsey Yonko (Appalachin, NY/Vestal), bow seat Katie Barnum (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and coxswain Jessica Buchheit (Amherst, NY/Amherst).

Another eight-rower shell also took a first place finish as the Lightweight Eight team, which consisted of a mixture of varsity and novice rowers, won a head-to-head race against Ithaca. The team included stroke seat Tracy Clarke (Mt. Sinai, NY/Rockford (MI)), seventh seat Jessica Ecke (Ridge, NY/Longwood), sixth seat Karen Corey (Kingston, NY/Kingston), fifth seat Jessica Barrell (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), fourth seat Barnum, third seat Rogers, second seat Hambridge, bow seat Michaels and coxswain Caitlin Logue (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy).

Also taking first place were two of UB’s three varsity four entries. Ithaca rowers won the three remaining races, the varsity eight, the second varsity eight and the second varsity four.

Final times were unavailable.
