Christine
Ann Dickerson, a freshman coxswain on the University at Buffalo's varsity
crew team, died tragically in a car accident in Ellicottville on December
11, 2002. Christine, a native of Williamsville, NY, was a 2002 graduate of
Nardin Academy in Buffalo where she discovered her passion for rowing as a
member of Nardin's crew team. She was a walk-on to the UB crew team in the
fall, and she planned to study to become a biomedical engineer.
Christine
also played youth soccer and won many awards in national competition for
Irish dancing. The daughter of James and Suzanne Dickerson, she was born
on March 14, 1984 and has two brothers, Scott and Shawn. Christine was a
dedicated student-athlete who was known for her generous spirit. She is
described by her family and friends as a warm and selfless person who went
out of her way to comfort others during their time of need. On February
19, 2003, the UB women's crew team christened a four-person bow-cox
boat called "The Spirit of Christine Dickerson" in her
honor.
