BUFFALO, NY – Two University at Buffalo baseball players were named to the All-Star teams of their respective summer leagues after having outstanding first halves to their seasons. Both Juniors this upcoming season, Zach Anderson (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) will be on the East All-Star Team in the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League, while Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) will be on the Northern All-Star Team for the New England Collegiate Baseball League.

Anderson is having a terrific season for the Maryland Redbirds as he leads his team with a 1.48 ERA in eight appearances on the year. His earned run average is second in the league as he has allowed just five earned runs in 30.1 innings pitched. Anderson has one complete game and one save on the season as well. Geltz ,who has settled in as the closer for the Concord Quarry Dogs, has saved six games on the season, good enough for fifth in the NECBL, just three behind the leagues co-leaders. He has also posted 29 strikeouts in just 16.0 innings while holding opponents to a .098 batting average. Geltz has made 14 appearances on the season and his 2.25 ERA is second-lowest on the team for pitchers with at least five appearances. Geltz lead the Bulls with 20 appearances this past year and five saves. He struck out 43 batters in 39.0 innings of work. The New England Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, July 22 at 7:10 pm.

Anderson and Geltz helped lead UB to its best MAC season in the team’s history. The Bulls finished 11-16 in the MAC and finished seventh in the conference, just one place out of the six-team conference tournament.
