Zach Anderson Drafted in 29th Round Of MLB Draft Anderson becomes the third player drafted since 2000
With his selection, Anderson becomes the third player drafted since UB reinstated baseball for the 2000 season. In 2007, Mike Folli was drafted in the 42nd round by the St. Louis Cardinals and former Bull Joe Mihalics was drafted in the 34th round of the 2005 draft by the New York Mets. Anderson was the 880th pick overall in the draft and the highest UB player drafted since 2000. “We are extremely excited for Zach that he will have the opportunity to continue his baseball career at the next level,” said head coach Ron Torgalski. “There's not a more deserving player than Zach Anderson. He has the mental makeup to move up in the ranks of professional baseball, and he's going to be a great representative of the University at Buffalo.” Anderson made 23 appearances this past season and struck out 55 batters in just 49.0 innings of work. Last summer, the New England Collegiate Baseball League named Anderson its Reliever of the Year as he pitched 27.0 innings, while striking out 27 and finishing the summer with a 0.33 ERA. Anderson leaves UB as its all-time leader in appearances with 83.
