Folli Receives Freshmen All-America Honors

Rookie infielder earns honor from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper as a second baseman

BUFFALO, NY Freshman Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) enjoyed a record-breaking season at the University at Buffalo, as he hit in a modern school-record 22 straight games and also became the first Bull to earn Mid-American Conference All-Star honors, garnering a spot on the league's second team. To cap off his season, the infielder also has garnered a spot on Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's 2005 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team, the newspaper announced this afternoon.

Folli, who started 24 games at second base and 25 at third base, was chosen along with five other second basemen, including Clemson's Taylor Harbin, New Mexico's Jordan Pachecho, California's Josh Satin, Southern Mississippi's Trey Sutten and Brigham Young's Sean McNaughton. Florida Atlantic's Mickey Storey was named Freshman Pitcher of the Year and Rice's Joe Savery was named Freshman Player of the Year, as the publication honored 79 NCAA Division I freshmen.

The switch-hitter led the Bulls with a .348 batting average, tops among MAC freshmen, and his .410 average in conference games was second in the league. He also led the Bulls in hits (64), runs (41, second-best in school history), triples (three), sacrifices (seven) and walks (26) as he set the school record since joining the MAC in on-base percentage at .434.

Folli is the third Bull to earn Freshmen All-America honors since the team was reinstated in 2000 after a 13-year absence from campus. Tyler Balentine and Bryan Sanchez each earned honorable mention honors on the Louisville Slugger team in 2000.

The Bulls finished 19-30-1 in 2005 under sixth-year head coach Bill Breene.
