Folli Becomes First Buffalo Baseball All-MAC Selection

BUFFALO, NY - Freshman infielder Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) has earned the first honor of his young career for the University at Buffalo baseball team, as he was named to the All-Mid-American Conference second team, as chosen by the league's head coaches, the MAC office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Folli had a record-breaking season for the Bulls before becoming the first UB player to make the MAC squad since joining the league in 2001, as he embarked on a 22-game hitting streak from March 27 to May 8 that raised his average from .227 to .356. The hitting streak, a record since Buffalo joined the MAC, propelled Folli into the top 10 in the league in batting average (.348) and his .410 average in conference games was second in the league.

The switch-hitter led the Bulls in hits (64), runs (41, second-best in school history), triples (three), sacrifices (seven) and walks (26) as he set the school record since joining the MAC in on-base percentage at .434.

Folli managed 20 multi-hit games and had five three-hit games to pace Buffalo's offense for much of the season from the leadoff slot. In the field, the natural shortstop split time between second and third base while senior Joe Mihalics (Tonawanda, NY/Timon-St. Jude) played short.

The last time a UB player was honored by his conference was 1987, when Paul Dlugosz was a member of the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference team while the team was still a Division III program.

Buffalo finished the season with a 19-30-1 record, a school mark since reinstatement, and a 5-14-1 record in the MAC.
