McGraw Earns National Honor for Senior Day Shutout
BUFFALO, NY - With a 6-14 lifetime record and no complete games when he took the mound on Sunday, senior Chris McGraw (Summerville, SC/Stratford/Coffeyville CC) put together the finest performance of his University at Buffalo career in his final game in a Bulls' uniform, shutting out Marshall, 1-0, to seal Buffalo's first series sweep since joining the MAC in 2001. Already rewarded with the MAC East Division Co-Pitcher of the Week Award with Miami (OH)'s Graham Taylor on Monday, McGraw was also one of 54 players named to the College Baseball Foundation's National Honor Roll on Tuesday, becoming Buffalo's first player to receive the honor. McGraw allowed seven hits and two walks but stranded eight runners, including three on third in the game. During his final start, he threw 142 pitches and struck out a career-high 12 batters, including four of the last seven he faced, for his first career complete-game shutout. McGraw also helped to throw a shutout against Navy on March 27, throwing seven innings in the 8-0 win. He finished the year 2-5 with a 5.08 ERA in 62 innings. He struck out a team-high 50 batters and is just one of four pitchers to have struck out more than 100 batters in a Bulls' uniform since the school reinstated baseball in 2000. Buffalo finished the season with a 19-30-1 record, a school mark since reinstatement, and a 5-14-1 record in the MAC. The College Baseball Foundation releases the National Honor Roll weekly during the
collegiate baseball season, saluting the finest performances of the past week's action as nominated by
conference and university baseball media contacts. |
