McGraw Leaves Buffalo with MAC Award
McGraw, who shares the honor with Miami (OH) hurler junior Graham Taylor, rose to the occasion on Senior Day, pitching in the final game of his career on Sunday and coming out on the winning side of a 1-0 pitchers' duel with Marshall. He allowed seven hits and two walks but stranded eight runners, including three on third in the game. During his final start, he threw 142 pitches and struck out a career-high 12 batters for his first career complete-game shutout. The shutout capped off Buffalo's first MAC sweep of a team since joining the conference in 2001. McGraw also helped to throw a shutout against Navy on March 27, throwing seven innings in the 8-0 win. He finished the year 2-5 with a 5.08 ERA in 62 innings. He struck out a team-high 50 batters and is just one of four pitchers to have struck out more than 100 batters in a Bulls' uniform since the school reinstated baseball in 2000. Sophomore pitcher Mark Tourangeau (Oakville, Ontario/Queen Elizabeth Park) became the seventh pitcher to earn the MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week on March 28 after throwing a three-hit shutout of Navy on March 26 in a 2-0 win. Sophomore catcher Dan Quinn (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) earned the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week award on March 21, the first time a UB player had earned the honor since joining the MAC in 2001.
Buffalo finished the season with a 19-30-1 record, a school mark since reinstatement, and a 5-14-1 record in the MAC. |
