Bulls Beaten in Season FinaleCONWAY, SC - The University at Buffalo baseball team completed its 2002 season Sunday afternoon with a 23-1 loss at Coastal Carolina. The Bulls finish the season with a 16-28 overall record and were 6-17 in Mid-American Conference action. Coastal Carolina, the top seed in the upcoming Big South Conference Tournament, improved to 38-17.
UB managed to avoid the shutout with a run in the ninth inning. Corey Blair (Oneida, NY/Oneida) led off with a double to right field against reliever Byron Binda. Blair was then removed for pinch runner John Boom (London, Ontario/Catholic Central). After two outs were recorded, Jordan Alcott (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) brought home Boom with the Bulls' lone run on a double to left center. The Bulls picked up seven hits in the contest with Blair and Eric Huber (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) each collecting a pair. Alcott, Adrian Daniels (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and Tim Sova (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) accounted for the remaining baseknocks. With the conclusion of the season, the 16 wins by the Bulls marks the most by a UB squad since
the return of the program in 2000. UB's six Mid-American Conference victories also is the most in
league competition after the Bulls went 5-23 in the MAC last season, the team's first as members of the
conference.
