Baseball Drops Season Finale to Kent State
KENT, OH Buffalo (16-37, 5-21) was shut out by Kent State (35-16, 20-4), 10-0, in its final game of the 2003 campaign on Sunday afternoon at Gene Michael Field. The Bulls finished the season with 16 wins, tying their highest win total since the program was reinstated in 2000. Three Kent State pitchers combined to shut out the Bulls on six hits. Adrian Daniels (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and Kevin Nesteruk (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca East) each collected a pair of hits for UB. Bryan Sanchez (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) ripped a double to right center field in the fourth inning for the Bulls' lone extra base hit. Kent State pounded out 17 hits, including seven doubles. Chad Kinyon had three doubles and two RBIs for the Golden Flashes. A five-run third inning for Kent State set the tone for the game. The Bulls utilized four pitchers on the afternoon. John Sullivan (Buffalo, NY/Timon/St. Jude), making the final start of his career, allowed six earned runs over three innings and was charged with the loss. With a single in the sixth inning, Joe Mihalics (Tonawanda, NY/Timon/St.
Jude) finished the 2003 season with 65 hits, the second best single season hit total in school history. |
