KENT, OH – Kent State’s Jason Patton hit a walk-off home run to right center field to lead off the bottom of the 11th inning as the Bulls fell, 5-4, Thursday afternoon at Schoonover Stadium. The loss drops the Bulls to 16-33 on the year and 11-14 in conference play. The UB loss, combined with Toledo’s victory this afternoon, has knocked the Bulls out of the playoff race for the 2007 MAC Tournament.

The Bulls got on the board first with a run in the first inning as sophomore Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) hit a two-out double to right center, which scored freshman Bobby Pizzuto (Mentor, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral) from first base.

Kent State picked up the lead in the bottom half of the inning as the Golden Flashes scored two unearned runs, scoring one on a groundout and another of a UB error.

The Bulls tied the game up in the top half of the fifth inning as Tony Fuller (Rochester, NY/Penfield) led off the inning with a walk. He moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt and then advanced 90 feet to third on a single to left field from Adam Skonieczki (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott). Fuller came in to score on a sacrifice fly from junior Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott).

Kent State regained the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly as Pizzuto made a diving grab in right center.

UB took the lead in the top of the ninth inning as Charlie Karstedt (Eden, NY/Eden) hit a two-run triple to right center, which drove in pinch runner E.J. Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and sophomore Brad Agustin (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) from first.

However, the Golden Flashes tied the game up in the bottom half of the ninth inning, scoring off a passed ball. The two teams remained tied until the bottom half of the 11th, where Patton’s home run won the game for Kent State.

UB starter Mike Radanovic (Surrey, British Columbia/L.A. Matheson) picked up another no decision as he went eight innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out six batters. Radanovic through 138 pitches in his final start of the 2007 season. Offensively, Pizzuto recorded two hits for the Bulls and Karstedt had two RBIs, the first two of his career. Karstedt is 5-for-8 on the season as a pinch hitter for Buffalo.

The Bulls and Golden Flashes continue their three-game series tomorrow as the two teams meet at 3:00 pm. The two teams wrap up their series on Saturday with a 1:00 pm start.
