BOWLING GREEN, OH – The University at Buffalo baseball team batted around the order in the third and fifth innings, scoring 12 unanswered runs en route to a 14-3 victory over Bowling Green, Sunday afternoon at Warren Steller Field. The victory improves UB’s record to 15-31 on the season and 11-13 in Mid-American Conference play.

Bowling Green scored two unanswered runs in the bottom of the first inning, but the Bulls got one back in the top of the second and junior Rick Oliveri (Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Bulls looked for more in the top half of the frame, but Brad Agustin (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

The Bulls responded by putting up six runs in the third inning as they batted around the order to take the lead. Sophomore Eric Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) drove in a run with a single through the left side and junior Nick Walczak (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) walked to load the bases for UB with one out. Agustin then hit a one-run single to right field. Oliveri then drew the first of two bases loaded walks on the day. Freshman Adam Skonieczki (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) then drove in two runs as he hit single to right field. The BGSU right fielder was unable to play the ball as it rolled all the way to the fence, scoring another UB run as Skonieczki reached third on the play.

Buffalo added another five runs in the top of the fifth inning as Walczak led the inning off as he was hit by a pitch and advanced to second as Agustin singled to right field. UB would load the bases as Oliveri drove in a run with a walk. Skonieczki drove in another run as he grounded out to short stop. Junior Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) walked as UB loaded the bases again. Freshman Bobby Pizzuto (Mentor, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral) walked to drive in a run and sophomore Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) drove in two runs with a single up the middle.

The Falcons added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but UB starter Adam Ruszkowski (Utica, NY/Proctor) pitched a solid game, picking up his third victory of the season.

The Bulls added another two runs in the eighth inning as Ciesla hit a two-out single into center field, which drove in Skonieczki from second base. Flynn drove in Folli with a single to left center for UB’s 14th run of the afternoon.

The Bulls will host a mid-week doubleheader against St. Bonaventure on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 pm before heading to Kent State for the final series of the season. Currently sitting at seventh in the MAC, UB will be looking to make its first ever trip to the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
