BOWLING GREEN, OH – Trailing 9-2 going into the ninth inning, the University at Buffalo baseball team put up five runs in the top of the ninth, but were unable to get any closer, falling to Bowling Green, 9-7, Saturday afternoon at Warren Steller Field. The loss drops UB’s record to 14-31 on the season and 10-13 in conference play.

Bowling Green got on the board first with three runs in the bottom of the third innings, but the Bulls fought back by scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning as junior Rick Oliveri (Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) and freshman Adam Skonieczki (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) each hit RBI singles.

Bowling Green came back with one run in the fourth, but it was a four-run seventh that extended their lead and an additional run in the eighth made the score 9-2 going into the top of the ninth inning.

With one out in the ninth Charlie Karstedt (Eden, NY/Eden) hit an infield single and advanced to second on a throwing error. After a foul out, Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) hit a single, which moved Karstedt to third. Karstedt would come in to score as freshman Bobby Pizzuto (Mentor, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral) singled through the left side. The hit by Pizzuto extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) then singled up the middle, which loaded the bases. Junior Nick Walczak (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) kept the inning alive as he singled through the right side, driving in two runs. Sophomore Eric Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) doubled in two more runs as he hit a shot to left center. The Bulls then put runners on first and second, but were unable to score anymore runs in the frame.
