Miami Shuts Out Buffalo With 12-Run PerformanceOXFORD, OH - The Miami Baseball team used a strong pitching performance from John Ely, completing the series sweep of Buffalo with a 12-0 victory, Saturday night at McKie Field. Miami outhit Buffalo 14-4 in the contest and scored runs in all but two innings. The RedHawks wasted no time getting on the board, putting up a three spot in the bottom of the first inning off of UB starter Shane Wolf (Freeville, NY/Lansing). The big blow of the inning was a two-out double that plated two Miami runs.
Miami added runs in both the second and third and after a scoreless fourth, threatened again in the fifth. Wolf was taken out in the fifth with two runners to his name, both would come in to score. Wolf finished a four-inning performance allowing nine hits and seven runs, while walking one and striking out one. The RedHawks put up three runs in that fifth inning, taking an 8-0 lead. Zack Anderson (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) entered the game and allowed jut three hits in his two innings of work, giving up two runs, but just one earned. Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) pitched the seventh for Buffalo, but gave up three runs, all with two outs in the inning as he allowed back-to-back doubles. Matt Larson (Canandaigua, NY/Pomona/Erie CC) worked a scoreless eighth, allowing just one walk.
The Bulls never really threatened in the game, although they did put up two hits in the top of the fourth inning, both with two outs. David Amaro (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) reached on an infield single and Rick Oliveri (Tonowanda, NY/Canisius) singled up the right side, but neither were able to cross the plate. Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and James Kingsley (Medina, NY/Medina) each recorded hits for Buffalo. Kingsley hit a single up the right side in the first inning and Folli hit his in the eighth inning, a single to left field. Ely picked up the win for Miami going seven innings and allowing just three hits, while walking three and striking out seven. The Bulls return to action on Friday, May 12 when they begin a three-game set with Bowling Green at Amherst Audobon Field. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm. |
