Miami Shuts Out Buffalo With 12-Run Performance

Bulls are shut out as they manage just four hits

OXFORD, OH - The Miami Baseball team used a strong pitching performance from John Ely, completing the series sweep of Buffalo with a 12-0 victory, Saturday night at McKie Field. Miami outhit Buffalo 14-4 in the contest and scored runs in all but two innings.

The RedHawks wasted no time getting on the board, putting up a three spot in the bottom of the first inning off of UB starter Shane Wolf (Freeville, NY/Lansing). The big blow of the inning was a two-out double that plated two Miami runs.

Miami added runs in both the second and third and after a scoreless fourth, threatened again in the fifth. Wolf was taken out in the fifth with two runners to his name, both would come in to score. Wolf finished a four-inning performance allowing nine hits and seven runs, while walking one and striking out one.

The RedHawks put up three runs in that fifth inning, taking an 8-0 lead. Zack Anderson (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) entered the game and allowed jut three hits in his two innings of work, giving up two runs, but just one earned.

Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) pitched the seventh for Buffalo, but gave up three runs, all with two outs in the inning as he allowed back-to-back doubles. Matt Larson (Canandaigua, NY/Pomona/Erie CC) worked a scoreless eighth, allowing just one walk.

David Amaro (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) reached on an infield single and Rick Oliveri (Tonowanda, NY/Canisius) singled up the right side, but neither were able to cross the plate.

Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and James Kingsley (Medina, NY/Medina) each recorded hits for Buffalo. Kingsley hit a single up the right side in the first inning and Folli hit his in the eighth inning, a single to left field.

Ely picked up the win for Miami going seven innings and allowing just three hits, while walking three and striking out seven.
