The University at Buffalo baseball team made the familiar trip to Olean, NY to compete in the Big Four Classic. In Tuesday’s semifinal, the Bulls fell to the host Bonnies, 9-4. Wednesday in the consolation game, Buffalo came up short against Canisius, 8-5. Rob Mancini (Windsor, Ontario/St. Thomas) was named to the All-Classic team for the Bulls. The junior catcher was 4-for-9 at the plate for UB with four runs batted in. Bulls Drop Series At Kent State Following the Big Four Classic, the Bulls took to the road in Mid-American Conference play, taking on the league-leading Golden Flashes of Kent State. Buffalo fell in each game of the series. In game one on Friday the Flashes edged the Bulls, 5-3. On Saturday, Kent State was victorious 7-1 and they took Sunday’s series finale, 8-4.
Already sporting the lowest earned run average in the conference, junior Mike Stangroom (Fallston, MD/Calvert Hall) lowered his ERA to 2.85 after his performance Friday against Kent State. The crafty right-hander allowed just one earned run in six innings of work against the Golden Flashes. Stangroom also has the fourth-best opponents batting average in the conference, .235, and is fourth in strikeouts per nine innings pitched at 7.04. Rosenbeck Returns Against the Golden Flashes After missing seven games due to injury, Jacob Rosenbeck (Medina, NY/Medina) made an immediate impact upon returning to the UB lineup on Friday at Kent State. In his first at bat of the game, Rosenbeck hit an RBI double to the gap in left center. On the weekend, the junior shortstop hit .375 and had an on base percentage of .583. Rosenbeck also had a perfect weekend in the field for the Bulls. On Deck The Bulls will take to the road for their final MAC road series this weekend when they travel to Bowling Green, OH to take on the Falcons. Game one is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9 while the first pitch for the second and third games of the series are set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 10-11. |
