Adam Skonieczki Named MAC East Player of the Week Nabs first career MAC honor BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo junior Adam Skonieczki has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on May 4. Skonieczki's efforts at the plate and in center field, helped the Bulls win their conference weekend series over #23 Kent State while tying the program mark for most wins in a season (19) since the Bulls' reinstatement to Division-I status in 2000.
One swing of the bat by Skonieczki made a difference in the Bulls' 10-6 victory in game two of their series versus #23 Kent State on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls had the bases loaded as Skonieczki slid a three-RBI double down the left field, clearing the bases for a Bulls' 4-3 lead. Although the Bulls were unable to complete a sweep in the series finale on Sunday afternoon, Skonieczki turned in a solid performance, going 3-for-5 with two runs and a run scored. In five contests for the week, Skonieczki batted .455 by going 10-for-22 with a slugging percentage of .727. He added seven RBIs to his total and scored six runs to move into first-place for all-time most runs scored in a single-season (47). In five contests, he hit two doubles and two triples while collecting 16 total bases. This marks the second time this season a Bull has won the MAC East Division Player of the Week. On April 13, junior first baseman Rob Lawler earned his first career MAC honor and the Bulls first Player of the Week honor. Previously, two Bulls have earned the honor of MAC East Division Pitcher of the Week for a total of four times with Pierre Miville-Deschenes earning the honor March 3 and 30 and fellow Bull Mike Stangroom earning the honor on February 24 and March 11. Skonieczki and the Bulls (19-27, 6-14 MAC) will take on St. Bonaventure in a mid-week doubleheader on Tuesday, May 5 with the first pitch set for 3:00 pm. The Bulls currently lead the season series, 2-1. Game one of the doubleheader will be televised on TWCS-Buffalo Channel 13 in the Western New York area. The game will air on Wednesday, May 6 at 7:00 pm and Thursday, May 7 and Friday, May 8 at 8:00 pm.
