Buffalo Drops Series Finale to Ohio, 6-1
BUFFALO, NY Buffalo (13-29, 4-14) dropped the getaway game of a four-game series to Ohio (27-19, 10-10), 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at Amherst Audubon Field. The Bulls scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning when Phil Vanhorne (Scarborough, Ontario/Mother Teresa), who had reached base via a single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, scored on a wild pitch. The Bulls held the 1-0 advantage until the Bobcats struck for three runs in the top of the third inning. Two of Ohio's three runs came on a UB fielding error. The Bobcats upped their lead to 4-1 compliments of a sacrifice fly by Jason Shockey. A wild pitch and an error allowed Ohio to put two more runs on the board in the ninth inning. Dustin Clark (Adams Center, NY/South Jefferson) pitched five innings in relief of starter John Sullivan (Buffalo, NY/Timon/St. Jude) and allowed only one earned run on two hits and struck out seven. Ohio starting pitcher Marc Cornell faced only one UB batter before being pulled for undisclosed reasons. Adam Russell gave up only six hits and didn't allow a run over 7 1/3 innings to pick up the win. All of Buffalo's eight hits were singles. Joe Mihalics (Tonawanda, NY/Timon/St. Jude) and Jordan Alcott (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) each collected two hits for UB. The Bulls will play their final home game of the 2003 campaign on Wednesday when they host
Duquesne in a doubleheader at 2 pm. |
