Baseball Falls to Kent State, 11-2
KENT, OH - For the second straight day, the Buffalo baseball team dropped an 11-2 decision to Kent State at Gene Michael Field. Kent State first got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Golden Flashes got an RBI double by Matt Sega followed by a two-run double Adam Crowder. The Bulls responded with two runs in the top of the fourth inning compliments of a two-run double by Steve Legrett (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua) that scored Andrew Wengert (Utica, NY/Proctor) and David Amaro (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott). However, that would be the extent of the Bulls' scoring. Kent State scored a run in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and three runs in the eighth inning to pull away for the victory. It was a rough afternoon for UB starting pitcher Chris McGraw (Summerville, SC/Stratford). The junior hurler allowed eight runs on 11 hits over 4.1 innings and was charged with the loss. Kent State starter Jason Brunke didn't allow an earned run over 6.2 innings to pick up the win. The Golden Flashes tallied 15 hits on the afternoon compared to just seven hits for the Bulls. Amaro had two hits for UB. The loss dropped the Bulls to 10-27 overall and 3-9 in the MAC. Kent State improved to 23-21
overall and 9-8 in the conference. The final game of the series will be played on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm. |
