After splitting a doubleheader with St. Bonaventure on Tuesday and dropping a single game at Niagara on Wednesday, the University at Buffalo baseball team took 2-of-3 against Akron in their Mid-American Conference weekend series. Randazzo Sparks Bulls Against Akron Junior second baseman Brian Randazzo (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles) collected three hits in each game of the Bulls three-game weekend series against Akron. Randazzo hit .643 in the series against the Zips with a home run, five runs batted in and four runs scored. For the season, Randazzo leads UB with a .310 batting average. He has 44 hits, 18 RBIs, three home runs and a team-high seven doubles. Kartstedt Has Breakout Week At the Plate After opening the season 2-for-29 in limited action, sophomore Charlie Karstedt (Eden, NY/Eden) broke out with a big week for the Bulls. In five games played, Karstedt was 9-for-17 (.529) with three doubles, four runs batted in and four runs scored. Karstedt’s batting average jumped .170 points in the week.
Junior right-hander Mike Stangroom (Fallston, MD/Calvert Hall) currently has the best earned run average of any pitcher in the Mid-American Conference. In 11 appearances, six starts, this season, Stangroom has a 3.02 ERA. He is also fourth in the conference in opponents batting average at .226 and ninth in strike outs per nine innings pitched at 7.36. Mye Solid in Three Relief Appearances In three appearances out of the bullpen last week, sophomore left-hander Chaz Mye (North Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph’s) threw 8.1 strong innings, allowing no earned runs. Mye’s first appearance of the week came against St. Bonaventure when he came out of the bullpen and kept the Bonnies off-balance for 4.2 innings, allowing no hits. Mye then picked up his first win as a Bull on Friday when he threw 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits. He worked again on Sunday, going 1.1 innings, striking out three Zip hitters. On Deck Buffalo heads to Olean, NY on Tuesday to take on St. Bonaventure in the first round of the Big Four Classic. The Bulls will meet Canisius or Niagara on Wednesday in the final round of the classic. This weekend, UB will hit the road for a three-game MAC series at Kent State, Friday-Sunday, May 2-4. |
