Bulls Set Scoring Record in Win

UB Wallops Ohio with 27-12 slugfest victory

ATHENS, OH - The University at Buffalo went on an offensive rampage Sunday afternoon, setting school records for runs, home runs (six) and RBIs (25) in a game with a 27-12 win over Ohio in the finale of a four-game Mid-American Conference series. The game lasted five hours and included a delay of nearly two hours due to rain and lightning. The Bulls also tied the school record with 24 hits in the contest.

The victory followed the completion of Saturday's suspended game which Ohio won 11-5.

Every player in the UB (11-20, 3-13 MAC) lineup had at least one hit and one RBI in the game. Leadoff hitter Joe Mihalics (Tonawanda, NY/Timon/St. Jude), who had a team-high 12 game hit streak snapped earlier in the day and Brandon DiCesare (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) were both 4-for-7 with three runs scored. Mihalics knocked in four, DiCesare brought home three and Eric Huber (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Corey Blair (Oneida, NY/Oneida) led the team with five RBIs each. Huber and Blair both homered twice in the game. DiCesare and John Boom (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) also hit home runs.

Lefthander Mark McMahon (West Seneca, NY/Timon/St. Jude) picked up his second win of the season with a career-high 12 strikeouts in the complete game.

The Bulls scored 14 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to put the game away. Bryan Sanchez (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) brought home two runs with a single and Huber and Blair unloaded two-run blasts in the fifth. Boom led off the sixth with a solo homer. Huber followed with his second homer of the game, a three-run shot, and Blair put another two-run homer over the fence to close the inning.

In the four-game series with the Bobcats (16-21, 5-10), the Bulls hit nine home runs, one more than the team total of eight produced all season heading into the series.
