BUFFALO, NY Brandon DiCesare (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) had a big day at the plate for the University at Buffalo baseball team on Thursday afternoon as he went 3-for-5 with an RBI and four runs scored to help the Bulls to a 17-14 win over Niagara. In addition to helping the Bulls beat the Purple Eagles, the UB catcher finished the day atop the UB record book for doubles and hits in a career.

DiCesare led off the bottom of the fourth inning with the 37th double of his career, surpassing Gregg Miller who set the record in 1986. It was also DiCesare's 159th career hit, tying him for first all-time with Rudy Pettiford (1979-82).

It didn't take long for the Rochester native to snatch up the hits mark as he beat out a single to the third baseman in his next at bat for the record breaker.

DiCesare already holds the school record for career at bats with 548 and his 166 games played ranks him second to only teammate Bryan Sanchez (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) with 177.

"Brandon is one of the players that we recruited in our first recruiting class (UB's baseball team was reinstated in 2000) and he was able to play right away," head coach Bill Breene said. "With the number of games we've been able to play, and the number of talented players we have, it is no surprise to me that we have guys in the position to break records."

Sanchez, Buffalo's third baseman, holds the school records for career home runs (35), RBIs (129) and the aforementioned games played.
