Dunford Earns MAC Honors

Righthander selected East Division Pitcher of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo junior righthander Brendan Dunford (Buffalo, NY/Timon/St. Jude) has been selected as the Mid-American Conference's East Division Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league office.

Brendon Dunford
Dunford picked up two victories for the Bulls last week while compiling a 2.40 earned run average. He limited opponents to a .189 batting average in 15.0 innings. Dunford pitched six innings of four-hit relief at Niagara on April 11, striking out five, to earn his first win of the season. He then threw a complete game six-hitter against Ohio, the league's second-highest scoring team, striking out five and walking two in UB's 7-1 win.

In his start against the Bobcats, Dunford held Ohio scoreless for 8.1 innings before Ohio scored in the ninth to break up his shutout bid, running a scoreless string of 10.2 innings which included the final 2.1 innings of his relief role at Niagara.

A sociology major, Dunford is in his first season with the Bulls after transferring from Canisius. He leads the Bulls with 34 strikeouts, fanning 21 in his last three appearances.

Dunford is the second UB pitcher to earn MAC honors. Sophomore righthander John Sullivan (Buffalo, NY/Timon/St. Jude) picked up the award on March 12 with his complete game two-hit victory over St. Bonaventure on March 8.

The Bulls face the Bonnies in a doubleheader this afternoon at Dunn Tire Park. Game one's first pitch is slated for 2:00 p.m.
