Bulls Split Pair With St. Bonaventure
The Bonnies took the lead in the first inning of game one, a pair of walks helped set the table for an RBI single up the middle by Nick Cunliffe, giving St. Bonaventure the early lead. But Buffalo answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Jacob Rosenbeck (Medina, NY/Medina) got a two-out single to center field and, after advancing to second on a wild pitch, Ciesla drove in Rosenbeck with an RBI single. A pair of errors by St. Bonaventure then allowed Ciesla to score and gave the Bulls a 2-1 lead. St. Bonaventure tied the game in the fifth. The Bonnies drew a pair of walks to open the frame and, after a sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, St. Bonaventure scored a run on a passed ball.
Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) came on to pitch a scoreless sixth and seventh innings for the Bulls, picking up his sixth save of the season. James Piazza (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) earned the win for the Bulls, his second victory of the year. In game two, St. Bonaventure scored seven runs in the second inning and tacked on three more in the third en route to an 11-1 win.
Mye pitched the final 4.2 innings of game two for UB, allowing one unearned run and no hits while striking out two and walking none. With the split, Buffalo now stands at 11-25 on the season. The Bulls will return to action tomorrow, April 23, when they travel to Niagara to play the Purple Eagles in a single game. Game time between the Bulls and Purple Eagles is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Sal Maglie Stadium. The game had previously been scheduled for 3:00 p.m. |
