ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo baseball team emerged victorious for the third time in the last four game, this time defeating the host Ohio Bobcats, 7-4, Friday evening at Bob Wren Stadium. The victory improves UB to 6-24 and 5-8 in conference play.

The Bulls got on the board in the top of the first inning and never looked back as junior Mike Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) scored on a groundout from sophomore Eric Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls). UB tack on another run in the top of the fourth inning as Flynn led off the inning with a double to left center. After an out, Flynn advanced to third on a throwing error and with two outs, came around to score on single to left field by sophomore Brad Agustin (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East).

Buffalo broke the game wide open in the sixth inning as it scored three runs in the frame. Agustin hit a sacrifice fly, which scored sophomore Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott). Freshman Shivam Bhan (Calden, Ontario/Mayfield) then stepped to the dish and drove in Nick Walczak (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) with a single up the middle. Bhan then recorded the third run of the inning as he scored on a fielder’s choice that turned into an Ohio throwing error.

UB starter Mike Radanovic (Surrey, British Columbia/L.A. Matheson) would pitch 7.2 innings before finally getting into trouble, leaving the game with bases loaded for Ohio in the eighth inning. Zach Anderson (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) came on in relief and walked the first batter as Ohio got on the board with its first run of the night. Anderson then allowed a two-run base hit as the Bobcats pulled within two. That hit chased Anderson out of the game as sophomore Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) entered the game. Geltz, the reigning MAC East Pitcher, was able to get J.T. Osburn to ground into a fielder’s choice, ending the Ohio threat.

The Bulls added two runs in the top of the ninth inning as Agustin hit a two-out double, driving Walczak in from first base. Agustin then moved over to third on a wild pitch and would later score on a passed ball.

Ohio did not go down quietly as it scored a run with a two-out triple in the ninth inning to account for its fourth run on night. Geltz came back and struck out the next batter to seal the win for the Bulls.

The Bulls and Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow evening with first pitch set for 6:00 pm.
