Blair Wins MAC Award

UB first baseman selected Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo first baseman Corey Blair (Oneida, NY/Oneida) has been named as the Mid-American Conference's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced late Tuesday.

Blair was instrumental in the Bulls' 11-6 win over Bowling Green on April 12. He broke out of a 1-for-22 slump with a perfect 3-for-3 afternoon at the plate, driving in one run and scoring another. Defensively, Blair recorded eight putouts and an assist. He secured the victory by grabbing Kelly Hunt's popup with the bases loaded and the potential tying run on deck to end the game.

A social sciences major with a 3.56 grade point average, Blair has started all 21 games for the Bulls this season, collecting eight RBIs with nine runs scored and homering once.

Blair is the third UB athlete to win the award this year. Football lineman Andy Avery (Rochester, MI/Rochester Adams) and women's basketball forward Jessica Kochendorfer (Allen, MI/Quincy) have been previously honored by the league.

The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to the MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
