Bulls Down Niagara in First Home Game

The University at Buffalo baseball team defeated Niagara last Wednesday, April 9, 10-6, in their first home game of the season. Jacob Rosenbeck (Medina, NY/Medina) went 3-for-5 against the Purple Eagles with a pair of runs batted in. Adam Skonieczki (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and Tony Fuller (Rochester, NY/Penfield) also drove in a pair of runs for the Bulls. James Piazza (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) picked up the win on the mound for UB and Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) collected his fourth save of the season.

Buffalo Falls in MAC Series at Western Michigan

After defeating Niagara, the Bulls embarked on a three-game road trip to Western Michigan. The Bulls dropped all three games to the Broncos. Mike Stangroom (Fallston, MD/Calvert Hall) and Jesse Reinstein (Thornhill, Ontario/Westmount Collegiate) each turned in solid pitching performances in defeat. Stangroom threw a complete game in game two, allowing just two earned runs while striking out five and walking just one batter. In game three, Reinstein went six innings, allowing just two earned runs, striking out seven while walking only one.

Ciesla Leads The Way For UB

Junior Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) leads the Bulls with a .308 batting average. Ciesla also has a team-best 36 hits and team-high 17 runs batted in. Ciesla is one of just two Bulls, along with Jacob Rosenbeck, to have played and started all 31 games this season.

Geltz Adds to Career Saves Record

With his fourth save of the season on Wednesday against Niagara, Steve Geltz continues to rewrite the Buffalo career saves mark. Geltz’s save against the Purple Eagles was the 14th of his career, double that of second place Sean McWilliams on the UB career saves list. This season Geltz has made 11 appearances on the mound, has a 2.16 earned run average and has struck out 21 batters in just 16.2 innings pitched.
