Baseball Weekly ReleaseThe Week in Review The Bulls opened their "home" season with an 8-7 loss to Canisius on Tuesday. The game, originally scheduled for Dunn Tire Park, was moved to Canisius' Demske Complex with the Bulls serving as the home team. UB jumped out to a 7-3 lead before Canisius drove the winning runs across in the eighth inning. From there the Bulls were swept in a wild four-game Mid-American Conference series at Bowling Green over the weekend by scores of 16-7, 23-10, 14-1 and 24-13. The two teams combined for 28 home runs in the four games.
Sanchez Ties HR Record Sophomore Bryan Sanchez (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) belted three home runs at Bowling Green to double his season total to six. He has now tied Marty Cerny's 1983-85 career record of 17 round-trippers. The third baseman hit two in Friday's opener. Both were two-run blasts. His record-tying homer was a grandslam in Saturday's 23-10 loss. The second-inning home run gave the Bulls a 5-2 lead at the time. Sanchez set the single-season home run mark as a freshman in 2000 with 11.
Home Runs Aplenty The Bulls and Falcons combined for 28 home runs in the four-game series. UB clubbed nine while Bowling Green hit 19 dingers in a constant wind that blew toward center field. Bryan Sanchez hit three home runs and raised his team lead to six while tying the school's all-time career mark. Rob Golemba (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) hit his first two of the season while Tim Sova (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) connected for the second time this season. Corey Blair (Oneida, NY/Oneida) also accounted for a pair of homers. His solo shot in the top of the eighth of the second half of Saturday's doubleheader broke up Bowling Green freshman Neil Schmitz's bid at a no-hitter. Eric Huber (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) also hit a solo shot, his first of the season, at Bowling Green.

Bryan Sanchez follows at .379 and leads the Bulls with six home runs and 27 RBIs. Brandon DiCesare (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) saw his 15-game hitting streak end at Bowling Green, but is still hitting .325. Leadoff hitter Tim Sova tops the team with 24 runs scored and 18 walks, and he has been hit by a team-high 11 pitches.
