Bulls Fall in First MAC Road Series

The University at Buffalo baseball team took to the road for the first time in Mid-American Conference play this past weekend, falling in all three games to Ball State. After Friday’s first contest was postponed due to wet field conditions, the Cardinals took a doubleheader Saturday, 3-1 and 16-1. Ball State also won Sunday’s matchup, 9-3.

Buffalo to Host First Game of the Season

After weather and field conditions forced Buffalo to play their first five home games of the season at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY, the Bulls are set to host their first game of the season at Amherst Audubon Field on Wednesday, April 9 against local rival Niagara. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.

Reinstein Solid in Two Appearances

In two appearances last week, freshman left-hander Jesse Reinstein (Thornhill, Ontario/Westmount Collegiate) threw 5.1 innings, allowing no runs and just three hits while striking out eight. Reinstein started game two of a doubleheader against St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, tossing three innings of two-hit baseball while striking out six Bonnie batters. He recieved a no decsison in the contest. Reinstein then threw 2.1 innings in relief on Sunday against Ball State.

Hains Among MAC’s Top Pitchers

Buffalo sophomore pitcher Jeffrey Hains (Mexico, NY/Mexico) is currently ranked third among Mid-American Conference pitchers in ERA with a 2.17 mark. He is also fourth in opponent batting average, as opposing batters are hitting just .223 against the right-hander. This past weekend, Hains tossed a complete game against Ball State in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

On Deck

UB is scheduled to play four games in the upcoming week, beginning with a midweek contest at home against Niagara on Wednesday. First pitch between the Bulls and Purple Eagles is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. This weekend, Buffalo will head to Kalamazoo, MI for a three-game conference set against Western Michigan. The Bulls and the Broncos are scheduled to play single games each day, Friday-Sunday, April 11-13.
