Bulls Take Finale at Kent State

Bats come alive in 13-5 win

KENT, OHIO - After falling to Kent State in the first three games of their Mid-American Conference series, the University at Buffalo rallied Sunday to take the finale of their weekend series 13-5 at Kent State's Gene Michael Field.

The Bulls scored six runs in the ninth inning to break open a tight contest. The Bulls opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the third as UB capitalized on two Kent State errors as Eric Huber (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) and Joe Todoro (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) plated RBI singles. The Bulls followed with four runs in the fourth highlighted by Brandon DiCesare's (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) two-run double. Tim Sova (Rochester, NY/Greece-Athena) knocked in Rob Golemba (New City, NY/Clarkstown South) with a double and Bryan Sanchez (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) brought home DiCesare with a run-scoring single.

UB added an eighth inning run as Sova scored Brown when Kent State's Dan Gutschmidt mishandled the ball giving the Bulls a 7-0 cushion.

Kent State scored five times in the bottom of the eighth highlighted by Pat O'Brien's two-run double. The inning ended with a double play as Eric O'Brien grouned out to Sanchez. Sanchez then threw home in an attempt to get the runner from third. Pat O'Brien was called out on interference when he took DiCesare's legs out from under him.

UB's bats then went to work in the ninth. Sanchez homered, his third of the season to give the Bulls an 8-5 lead. After doubling down the left field line, Todoro scored on a wild pitch and Corey Blair (Oneida, NY/Oneida) crossed the plate on a passed ball to give UB a 10-5 lead. Adrian Daniels (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport), Sova and DiCesare each followed with run scoring hits to give the Bulls the victory.

Starting pitcher John Sullivan (Buffalo, NY/Timon/St. Jude) allowed just one run to pick up his second win of the season.
