Bulls Fall Short Against Eastern Michigan, 5-3
Eastern Michigan (6-11, 4-0 MAC) made a statement in the first at bat of the game, as Jeff Davis led off with a towering shot that sailed over the right field fence. Another run scored in the top of the first would give the Eagles a 1-0 early lead, allowing EMU's George Biddle to begin his day on the mound with a lead. With a quick response, Folli sent the ball down the right field line for a double and would advance to third after the next at bat. Sophomore Brad Agustin (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville East) would bring Folli home with a single into right field. After a single by sophomore Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott), the Bulls (1-18, 0-4 MAC) were unable to provide the offense to score the runners on base. UB would get on the scoreboard once again in the third inning when Ciesla grounded out to the firstbaseman, thus scoring Folli from third and moving Agustin to second. With the game tied at 2-2, both teams would exchange runs in the fifth inning before Eastern Michigan scored two runs in the sixth, putting the game away. Josh Ivan sent the Ruszkowski offering into left field and past a diving defender, sending the two baserunners home and allowing Ivan to slide safely into third base with a triple. Ruszkowski managed to take the Bulls into the later innings, pitching a near complete game and allowing four earned runs. EMU's Biddle struck out five in six innings of work.
The Bulls will complete their scheduled three-game weekend series against Eastern Michigan tomorrow with a two-game doubleheader starting at noon. The game times have been changed due to possible rainy conditions on Sunday. |
