SAN ANTONIO, TX – The University at Buffalo baseball team fell in their opening game of the Irish Classic to host Notre Dame, 13-1. Rob Mancini (Windsor, Ontario/St. Thomas) had two hits and a run batted in for the Bulls in the loss as UB falls to 4-10 on the season.

The Irish scored twice in the opening frame as a leadoff walk, two bunt singles and a throwing error lead to the first run for Notre Dame. The second run of the inning came on an RBI ground out by Ross Brezovsky. Notre Dame added to their lead in the second when three hits and two walks helped lead to three more runs for the Irish.

Buffalo got on the board in the sixth when E.J. Folli (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) and Brian Randazzo (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles) hit back-to-back singles and Mancini collected a run batted in on a fielder's choice which scored Folli.

But Notre Dame answered that run by the Bulls with six of their own in the bottom of the sixth. Sean Gaston had the biggest hit of the inning for the Irish as he collected three runs batted in with a based loaded triple

Chaz Mye (North Tonawanda, NY/St. Joseph's) started the game and took the loss for Buffalo, going 3.1 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs. Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Bulls.

Notre Dame's David Phelps picked up the victory, going seven innings allowing one run and four hits.

Buffalo will finish their ten-game swing through the state of Texas with two games tomorrow in the Irish Classic. The Bulls will take on Southern Illinois at 4:00 p.m. and Texas-Pan American at 7:00 p.m.
