UB Drops Final Two Games in Florida

Bulls Return With 3-8 Record After First Week

HOMESTEAD, FL - The UB baseball team finished their spring break trip down in Homestead, FL, losing their last two games. The Bulls fell 9-0 to Hartford and 2-0 to Wagner.

Against Hartford, the Bulls gave up an unearned run in the fourth inning to fall behind. Hartford then exploded for a five-run seventh inning, knocking UB starter Tom Januchowski (Depew, NY/Lancaster) out of the game. Januchowski fell to 1-2 on the season. Kevin Brown (Amherst, NY/Amherst Central) was the only UB player hot from the plate, collecting two hits in the game. The Bulls only collected four hits as a team in the loss.

In the Bulls final game in Florida, UB dropped a close contest to Wagner College, falling 2-0. The game was scoreless into the fifth, when Wagner scored the first run of the game on a pass ball to take a 1-0 lead. Wagner then added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI double to make it 2-0. The biggest UB threat came in the fourth inning with runners on first and second and one out, but a strikeout and pop up to first ended the inning. UB collected six hits scattered among six different batters. Matt Rogan (Cattaraugus, NY/Cattaraugus Central) took the loss and fell to 0-2, despite giving up just one earned run over 6.2 innings.

UB is now 3-8 after their first week of action since the 1986 season. The Bulls will next play this weekend when they travel to Maryland to face Coppin State and Mt. St. Mary's. The team will make its debut in Buffalo when they play at Canisius on Wednesday, March 22.
