BEAUMONT, TX - The University at Buffalo baseball team fell in their final game of the Lamar Classic, 3-0, to fellow Mid-American Conference member Akron. Rob Mancini (Windsor, Ontario/St. Thomas) had two hits for the Bulls in the loss, which drops UB to 2-9 on the season.

Akron opened the scoring in the third as Kevin Haas singled, then stole second and was driven home on a single by Kurt Davidson.

In the sixth, a walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases for the Zips before Brian Kordal hit a two RBI single for Akron to increase their lead to 3-0.

Jeffery Hains (Mexico, NY/Mexico) started on the mound for UB, going seven hittings, allowing three runs and nine hits. Steve Geltz (Ransomville, NY/Wilson) came on and pitched a scoreless eighth for the Bulls.

In the ninth, Buffalo rallied as Shivam Bhan (Caledon, Ontario/Mayfield) got a one out single and Eric Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) doubled down the left field line to give the Bulls two runners in scoring position with one out. But Bobby Pizzuto (Mentor, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral) struck out and Charlie Karstedt (Eden, NY/Eden) flew out to center field to end the UB rally and the game.

Buffalo returns to the field for one more game in Beaumont, TX against Lamar on Monday. First pitch between the Bulls and the Cardinals is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
