Trailing 1-0 in the fifth, the Bulls posted three runs to take the lead. John Boom (London, Ontario/Catholic Central) brought home Bryan Sanchez (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) with an RBI double to tie the game at 1-1. Leftfielder Phil Vanhorne (Scarborough, Ontario/Mother Teresa) then plated Boom with the go-ahead run on another double. Vanhorne then came around to score on an RBI single by Joe Mihalics (Tonawanda, NY/Timon-St. Jude) to give the Bulls a 3-1 edge.

However, the Panthers, members of the Big South Conference, tied the game in the bottom of the fifth as Kemp Smith doubled to bring home a run and then scored the tying run on an fielder's choice by Ken Keesee.

High Point then took the lead in the bottom of the seventh as Smith hit a two-run homer off reliever Dustin Clark (Adams Center, NY/Jefferson CC) to give the Panthers a 5-3 edge. High Point added another run in the eighth for a 6-3 cushion.

The Bulls refused to go away quietly and rallyed in the ninth. With two outs and Brian Zelasko (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) pinch-running, Boom singled and Vanhorne walked to load the bases. Mihalics then coaxed an RBI out of a walk from Mark Shorey to close the gap to 6-4. That was as close as the Bulls could get, however, as Andy Wengert (Utica, NY/Proctor) struck out the end the game.

Clark (0-1), who struck out three in three innings, took the loss for the Bulls in relief of starter Tyler Balentine (Mendon, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima). Balentine struck out four in five innings of work. Toby Hoskins (1-0) picked up the win in relief for High Point (6-10) with Shorey recording his fourth save of the season.

Offensively, Vanhorne, batting leadoff and Boom, hitting in the ninth position, recorded two hits apiece to pace the Bulls' eight-hit attack. Mihalics had a pair of RBIs.

The Bulls travel to Davidson for single games on Tuesday and Wednesday at 3:00 pm both days.
