Big Inning Keys 12-7 Win Over New York Tech
With New York Tech ahead 2-0, Buffalo broke the game open with nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Folli led off the inning with a single, Jacob Rosenbeck (Medina, NY/Medina) followed with a single and Chris Ciesla (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) walked, loading the bases for Walczak. Walczak cleared the bases with a grand slam to give the Bulls a 4-2 lead. Eric Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) kept the UB rally going with a double and scored when Rick Oliveri (Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) reached base on an error. After three walks and a fielder's choice, Ciesla, hitting for the second time in the inning, cleared the bases with a double, giving the Bulls a 9-2 advantage. The nine-run inning was the most runs scored by the Bulls in an inning since April 26, 2006, when UB scored nine in the sixth inning of a 27-12 victory over Niagara.
The Bears scored a pair of runs in the seventh and UB scored one in the eighth, when Flynn drove in Ciesla on his fourth hit of the day, to finish the scoring. Buffalo showed very good discipline at the plate, drawing ten walks in the contest. Ciesla drew three walks while Pizzuto and Kevin McCall (Chagrin Falls, OH/Notre Dame Cathedral) each earned two free passes.
The Bulls will continue play in the Lamar Classic with a pair of games on Saturday. UB will play the host Lamar Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. and will again meet New York Tech at 8:00 p.m.
