UB’s first win came in the second game of a doubleheader against the Eagles, 10-3. In the first game of the day, the Bulls fell 5-1. Morehead State also swept a doubleheader from Buffalo on Saturday, winning game one, 3-2, and game two, 7-6.
Bulls Play Home Run Derby In Victory In the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader against Morehead State, the Buffalo offense exploded with five home runs in the 10-3 victory. Jacob Rosenbeck (Medina, NY/Medina) hit two round trippers in the contest while Shivam Bhan (Caledon, Ontario/Mayfield), Eric Flynn (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) and Brian Randazzo (St. Charles, MO/St. Charles) each added one long ball. The five home runs matches Buffalo’s entire output for the 2007 season and was just one off the single-game school record of six, set on April 28, 2002 at Ohio. Rosenbeck Continues To Swing A Hot Bat After going 7-for-14 at the plate on the opening weekend of the season, junior shortstop Jacob Rosenbeck continued swinging a hot bat this weekend against Morehead State. Rosenbeck had four hits, including two home runs against the Eagles. He also drew five walks in the four-game set. For the season, Rosenbeck is hitting .440 with a .720 slugging percentage.
Fifth-year senior Mark Tourangeau (Oakville, Ontario/Queen Elizabeth Park) picked up his first win of the season in his first start of the year against Morehead State. Tourangeau threw 4.2 innings in his first outing of the year, allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out seven batters. The victory was the ninth career win for Tourangeau as a pitcher for the Bulls. Reinstein Slams The Door On Eagles Rally With UB ahead 6-2 in Sunday’s second game, Morehead State began a fifth inning rally, loading the bases with two outs. Buffalo called upon freshman hurler Jesse Reinstein (Thornhill, Ontario/Westmount Collegiate) to get the Bulls out of the jam and Reinstein did just that, striking out Justin Johnson to end the Eagles threat. Reinstein would go on to finish the game, allowing one run and three hits in 2.1 innings of work. On Deck Next weekend Buffalo begins a ten-game swing through the state of Texas. The trip begins on Friday, March 7 as the Bulls begin play in the Lamar Classic in Beaumont, TX against New York Tech. On Saturday, UB will play host Lamar and New York Tech once again in the classic before ending the tournament with a game against MAC rival Akron on Sunday afternoon. |
