Athletes of the Week - 12/23/2002

Garrett Bontempo (DuBois, PA/DuBois) of the wrestling team helped the Bulls to a third-place finish at the 15-team Beast of the East Tournament on Friday in Newark, DE. The junior captured the 184-pound title to become Buffalo's first individual tournament champion of the season. With his 4-0 showing at the tournament, Bontempo improved his record to 13-3 on the season.

 

Photo of Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe (Nelson, New Zealand/Hawaii) of the women's basketball team averaged 19.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in helping the Bulls to two wins last week. The senior scored a game-high 22 points in Buffalo's overtime win at Youngstown State on Wednesday night and followed that with 17 points and seven assists in the Bulls' 77-67 win at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. McMeeken-Ruscoe is leading the Bulls in scoring with 14.6 points per game through the first seven games of the season.
