Athletes of the Week - 12/12/2005
Mark Budd (Orrville,
OH/Orrville) of the wrestling team became the first UB wrestler in the
Division I era to defeat a number-one ranked opponent as he downed Edinboro's Shawn Bunch, 6-4, to earn a
sudden-victory overtime decision over his opponent. The junior 133-pounder, ranked 14th in the
Amateur Wrestling News and W.I.N
Magazine polls, improved to 19-3 on the season and has won 29 of his last 34 matches.
Heather Turner (West Seneca, NY/Mount Mercy
Academy) of the women's basketball team scored
a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, both team-highs, to help the Bulls to a 53-40 win over
visiting Youngstown State, UB's third straight victory. The sophomore forward was 7-of-9 from the field and made
all four of her free throws in the game. In six games, she is tied for the team lead with 7.5 rebounds per game
and averaging 11.8 points per game, second on the team.
