Athletes of the Week - 12/09/2002
 Steve Esler (Rochester, NY/Aquinas Institute)
of the men's indoor track and field team broke his
own school record in the heptathlon with a first-place finish at the Golden Flash Gala. The senior bettered his
five-event performance with 3,584 points, bettering his record by 56 points. Esler won three of the five
events, including both track races, the 60-meter hurdles (8.71) and 1,000-meter run (2:45.47). He also placed first in
the long jump (21-1.5, 6.44m).
Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe (Nelson, New
Zealand/Hawaii) of the women's basketball team was
named to the All-Tournament Team at the Duke Classic leading the Bulls to a third-place finish. The 5-9 senior
guard averaged 16.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals in the two-game tournament. She shot 56
percent from the floor (14-for-25) in the two games, including an 8-for-11 performance in the second half against
Saint Joseph's, scoring 17 of her team-high 19 points.
