Athletes of the Week - 11/19/2001
Dave Guarino (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) of
the wrestling team won the 165-pound weight class title at the
Bloomsburg Invitational and led the Bulls to the overall team title.
Guarino, the 2001 MAC Champion, went 3-0 at the meet including taking a
2-0 decision over Matt Hoover of Duke in the final. He is undefeated so
far this season at 6-0 after winning his weight class at the season-
opening Oklahoma Gold Classic.
Larissa LaCour (West Islip, NY/West Islip) of the volleyball team recorded a double-double with 45 assists and 11 digs in UB's season-finale against Ohio on Sunday. The senior completed the season with 1,009 assists, a total that ranks seventh all-time on Buffalo's single-season assists list. Additionally, her
9.609 assists per game average this season ranks third all-time in UB history. LaCour's 2,381 career assists place her fourth all-time, and her 6.962 career average is also the fourth-highest in Buffalo history.
