Joe Freedy (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) of the football team had his finest day as a UB Bull as he threw for a career high 323 yards on 23-of-36 passing with one touchdown to lead the Bulls to a 20-17 overtime win over Kent State. It was the first time that Freedy had passed for better than 300 yards in a contest.

Jolie Pun (Fonthill, Ont./E.L. Crossley) of the women's swim team was a double winner in the Bulls' Mid-American Conference dual meet openers against Akron and Ohio. Pun, a freshman, captured the 200 freestyle in 1:55.60 and took the 500 freestyle in 5:09.36. She improved on her season bests in both events, shaving a second off of each.
