ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Connor Vander Zalm (Kelowna, British Columbia/Kelowna) of the men's swimming team won an individual race and was part of a winning relay as the Bulls opened the season with a 137-106 victory at Ball State. Vander Zalm won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:48.16 and anchored the victorious 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:12.42. He also placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:58.18.

Mary Veith (Derby, NY/Lake Shore) of the women's cross country team was the overall runner-up at the Mid-American Conference Championships earning first-team All-MAC honors. Veith completed the muddy 5K course at Beaver Island State Park in 20:37.65 and bettered her placing of 63rd at the 2005 meet. Hosting the league championships for the first time in school history, the UB women placed 11th in the team standings.??
