Athletes of the Week - 10/03/2005
Drew Willy (Randolph, NJ/Randolph)
of the football team made his first collegiate start and
finished 30-of-38 for 288 yards and two touchdowns against Western Michigan on Saturday. The freshman
quarterback caught fire in the second half, completing 20-of-21 passes, including his final 15 straight in the second half.
His 30 completions were the second most in school history and the most since the Bulls turned Division I-A in 1999.
Kristen Ortman (Amherst,
NY/Amherst) of the women's tennis team led the Bulls to a 7-0 win over
St. Francis (PA) with singles and doubles victories. At first singles, she defeated Ruxandra Ionescu, 6-1, 6-0
and scored an 8-1 win at second doubles. The all-time winningest singles player in UB's Division I history,
Ortman has collected 47 victories in less than three and a half years.
