Athletes of the Week - 09/24/2007
Dan Giza (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) of the men's cross country team won the individual title in leading the Bulls to the team victory at the UB Stampede Invitational. Giza ran the 8K course at Beaver Island State Park on Grand Island in 26:14.6, taking the lead from Colgate's Lyle Tolli with two kilometers to go and finishing more than 10 seconds ahead of Tolli. Giza's first place finish also helped the Bulls capture the team title as UB sent six of the top eight men's racers across the finish line ahead of Colgate.
Amy Coron (Farmington, NY/Victor) of the women's soccer team scored her first shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Howard. In UB's two-game swing through Washington, DC, Coron allowed just two goals in nearly 200 minutes of action, stopping 10 shots. For the season, she has posted a 1.79 goals against average, making 50 saves. The shutout against the Bison was Coron's fourth of her career.
