Athletes of the Week - 09/22/2003
Cheick Diarra (Hillsborough, NJ/John Bartram)
of the men's soccer team was named to the
All-Tournament Team at the Army Classic. The junior defender was part of a defense that allowed two goals in
three games during the week. In a 0-0 tie against Niagara, the Bulls' defense held the Purple Eagles to just one shot
on goal. In the two games in the Army Classic, the UB defense limited the host Black Knights to six shots on
goal in a 1-1 tie and Navy to seven shots in a 1-0 loss.
Nikki Morzenti (Safety Harbor,
FL/Clearwater) of the women's volleyball team led the Bulls in kills
in both matches at the Bison Scramble on Saturday, posting 16 against Bucknell and 19 against Stony Brook.
A freshman hitter, Morzenti is putting together a solid freshman campaign for the Bulls with current averages
of 2.84 kills per game (second on the team), 2.40 digs per game (fourth on the team) and 0.58 blocks per game.
Her 19 kills against Stony Brook were just one away from her season high.
