Athletes of the Week - 09/17/2007
Alex Marrello (Burnaby, British Columbia/Alpha Secondary) of the men's soccer team had three assists in UB's pair of weekend matches helping the Bulls extend their winning streak to five games. Marello, in his first season with the Bulls after playing at Cincinnati in 2006, assisted on UB’s first goal against St. Bonaventure on Friday and on both goals against Cornell on Sunday, including the game-winner in overtime. He leads the Bulls this season with three assists and five points.
Andreea Novaceanu (Bucharest, Romania/Emil Racovita) of the women's tennis team won the second singles flight at the Army Invitational. Novaceanu, the top seed in the second flight, scored a straight sets win over Paola Ridolfi of Stony Brook, 6-3, 6-4, to claim the title. The senior went undefeated on the weekend, winning all four of her matches without dropping a set on her way to the title. Novaceanu is now one victory shy of tying Miglena Nenova for all-time singles wins at 67.
