Athletes of the Week - 09/15/2003
Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East)
of the men's tennis team went undefeated
in singles play at the St. Bonaventure Fall Classic. Rocchio, UB's top singles player, defeated St.
Bonaventure's Alejandro Nery, 6-3, 6-4, on Sunday to capture the individual title. Rocchio also posted victories over
opponents from Niagara and Cleveland State during the weekend tournament. He also combined with
freshman Mike Rockman (Toronto,
Ontario/Thornhill) to post a 2-1 doubles record, dropping an 8-4 decision to
St. Bonaventure in the final round.
Jenny Koeppel (Amherst,
NY/Amherst) of the women's cross country team finished seventh in a
field of 75 runners at the Miami Invitational and was the first UB finisher in the meet. Koeppel completed the
5K course in a personal lifetime best of 18:07.26 as the Bulls finished fifth in the seven-team field. The
time bettered the previous week's 18:26 when she finished second at the Tommy Evans Invitational.
