Athletes of the Week - 09/10/2007
Larry Hutchinson (Seattle, WA/Franklin) of the football team led a tremendous defensive effort by the Bulls with eight tackles, four tackles for loss (including three sacks), a pair of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Hutchinson was part of a defense that allowed just 141 yards of offense and minus-36 yards rushing by the Owls in UB's 42-7 victory in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. The senior linebacker leads the Bulls with his three sacks and four tackles for loss.
Brooke McCalla (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) of the women's soccer team scored two goals in UB's 3-1 victory over Binghamton in the opening round match of the Niagara Classic and went on to be named to the All-Tournament team. She scored her first goal of the match with 13 minutes to play in the first half to break a 1-1 tie. McCalla also tacked on another marker in the second half. The junior forward/midfielder leads the team with six points this season and is tied for the team lead with her two goals.
