ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

James Starks (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) of the football team scored the winning touchdown in overtime of UB's 9-3 season-opening victory over Temple. A redshirt freshman, Starks rushed for 85 yards on 14 carries in his collegiate debut. He scored the game-winner with an 18-yard run down the right sideline after the UB defense stopped Temple on its overtime possession. Starks was also instrumental in UB's fourth quarter scoring drive with four carries for 45 yards, setting up a field goal.

Lizaiha Garcia (Dayton, OH/Beavercreek) of the volleyball team notched her 1,000th career dig as UB swept three matches at the Western New York Invitational. The junior libero collected 29 digs, one shy of her career high, in UB's five-game win over Coastal Carolina and now has 1,022 for her three seasons with the Bulls. She also leads the team in service aces (14), ranking third in the Mid-American Conference in aces (0.58 per game) and seventh in digs (5.04 per game).
